Membership “Tip-Off”

Our 9th Annual Membership Tip-Off was held on Wednesday, November 1st in the Breslin Student Events Center. One of the Club's most popular events allowed the Club's new and returning members and their guests an up close look behind the scenes of MSU Men's Basketball.

Loyal Spartans this season will had an opportunity to watch practice, have a Spartan photo taken, tour the recently completed Breslin Center renovations including the new "Tom Izzo" Hall of History and hear from our Hall of Fame Coach. In addition, members and their guests were able to meet, take pictures of and get autographs from their favorite players including another great set of freshman. It was an exciting evening and a great tip-off to the upcoming season of MSU Basketball.

The Club's Board is already planning next season's event.

There are a number of new logistical details for this event this season because of the changes in the Breslin Center.

Parking:  (Update: Parking will be FREE)  One of the important changes to note this season is MSU has changed many of the non-employee parking lots across the campus to “Pay by Plate” parking.  When we published our flyer we were told we would have to pay for this event, however the Board has arranged that anyone entering the lot after 3:30 PM will not have to pay to park at the Kiosks.  Just come in the lot and enter Breslin. If you arrive before 3:30 PM you will need to pay from the time you entered the lot until 3:30 PM.

Entrance Gate:  Another change to Breslin is all of the Gates have been renamed.  For this event, please enter through the Gilbert Pavilion.  This is the Breslin Center’s new front door entering into the Tom Izzo Hall of History (formerly Gate B) with the Magic Johnson statue outside.  Doors will open at 4:30 pm.

Cost:  This event is free to Club Members.  The cost for member guests is $10 per guest at or at the door.  Children 12 and under (members family or guests of members) are free.

Early Registration: Early registration ended last Friday, October 27th. For those that have mailed in their registration and/or their membership (even if you did not pre-register) can go directly to the Early Registration Table on the left side as you enter the Hall of History Gate.  You Membership Card(s), this Season’s Membership Pin(s) and other items will be waiting for  you.  Your envelope will also have any guest tickets you have registered early for.  You may buy additional guest tickets at this table for $10.00 each.  Kids 12 and under are free and do not need a ticket.

Walk-in Registration: For all others you will be able to join or renew your existing Rebounders Club membership on November 1st.  This group will enter through the right side of the doors at the Hall of History Gate.   It would save you time if you had a completed membership application filled out in advance, but if not, there will be a separate table where you can complete your Membership Application. Please fill that out before you get in line.  If you have guests a Tip-Off Registration sign-up sheet which will be provided.  Once these forms are completed,  get in the line to pay for your renewal and guests. Kids 12 and under are free and will not need to register or have a ticket to enter.

Once registered there will be options for you:

Hall of History Tour: We are so excited to finally have the new Tom Izzo Hall of History finished and available to showcase all we love about Spartan Basketball.

Keepsake Photo:  We will again have a photo session set up so you can get yet another unique Spartan keepsake.  Be sure to wear your Green and White.

Watch Practice:  Practice will be on-going once you arrive.  Enter the arena and sit in the green back seats anywhere within the roped off sections. Coach will be conducting practice.

Concessions:   We plan to have a concession stand open near the Hall of History gate for those wishing to purchase drink or food.

Hear From Coach and Meet the Players: Once Coach finishes practice he will welcome us, talk about the upcoming season and this year’s team.  He will also field questions so have some good ones ready.  Once he is finished, you will be invited down onto the floor where the players will be scattered at various tables. You may greet the players, take pictures and get an autograph (1 item only) if you want to. We plan to have posters available on the floor as you come down.

Our second luncheon of the 2017-18 season was held on Thursday, December 7th at Hawk Hollow. Carlton Valentine, the father of Denzel and Drew Valentine, who also played at MSU from 1984-88 was our guest speaker. Carlton talked about the experience of both coaching in high school and being a father of a Division 1 player and took questions from the audience. Coach Izzo updated the club on the team and the recent 6 games in 13 days road trip, and how they will try to work on themselves to get better. The meeting as always was both a memorable luncheon and special holiday treat.
