2018-19 Season Events

We tipped off the 2018-19 season opened with our 10th annual Membership Tip-Off meeting on Monday, October 22nd. Similar to past seasons this was a unique opportunity to meet the players, tour behind scenes, hear from Coach Izzo, watch practice and participate in a keepsake photo op.

This year we will again have six luncheons throughout the season and may possibly add an exciting new event. In addition, we will help with the annual Food Drive chaired by Lupe Izzo and intend to again co-sponsor Pep Rallies at Post Season Tournaments.

Other than the first luncheon held on November 8th at Hawk Hollow, all of the other Luncheons this season are at Eagle Eye Golf Club on Chandler Road in Bath. Doors open at 10:45 am, and the program starts at 11:50 am and lasts to 1:00 pm. In addition to Coach Izzo or one of our assistant coaches, each luncheon features a guest speaker. Luncheons are open to both members and the general public, particularly if you bleed green. Memberships are always available at the door. No reservations are needed.

2019 Spartan Men's Basketball Banquet

The 2019 MSU Men's Basketball Banquet honoring this season's incredible group of players and their accomplishments will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at the Jack Breslin Student Events Center on the campus of Michigan State University. As always attendees will be able to experience one of the most emotional events of the season as the players received their awards and recognition. It provides our fans with another opportunity to say "thank-you" to our Seniors. Spartan Sports Radio will again this year broadcast the Tom Izzo Radio Show live from the event in their "Green Carpet Special".

10th Annual MSU Rebounders Club Tip-Off

Our 10th Annual Membership Tip-Off was held on Monday, October 22nd in the Breslin Student Events Center. One of the Club's most popular events allowed the Club's new and returning members an up close look at MSU Men's Basketball. Loyal Spartans again this season had an opportunity to watch practice, tour behind the scenes including the new locker-room barbershop, have a Spartan keepsake photo taken, hear from Coach Izzo and meet and greet the players and other coaches and staff. This year the Club provided "player bio cards" for the team, which many used to get autographs from their favorite players. As always it was an exciting evening and a great way to tip-off another great season of MSU Basketball.

Luncheon @ Hawk Hollow

Our first luncheon of the 2018-19 season was held on Thursday, November 8th at Hawk Hollow. Doug Wojcik, Recruiting Coordinator, was the guest speaker. He spoke about recruiting both from his current position and as a parent. His oldest son has committed to playing for Loyola next season. He answered a lot of questions and it was interesting to hear about all aspects of the recruiting process. These luncheons are always a great time to socialize with fellow Spartans.

Luncheon @ Eagle Eye

Our third luncheon of the 2018-19 season was held on Friday, January 11th at Eagle Eye. Coach Izzo updated everyone on the status of our players and the upcoming road games with Penn State and Nebraska. He also announced (sadly) the passing of a great Spartan and former basketball coach Gus Ganakas. Gus was 92 and will always be in the heart and memories of all Spartans everywhere. As always this luncheon was a excellent opportunity to support our Men's Basketball program and socialize with fellow Spartans.

Luncheon @ Eagle Eye

Our second luncheon of the 2018-19 season was held on Friday, December 14th at Eagle Eye. Coach Izzo spoke. He talked about his current team, games played to date, the Big Ten, and told a great story about Tum Tum Nairn who is now with the Phoenix Suns in a player development role. This was another great opportunity to see a different side of the basketball program.

Luncheon @ Eagle Eye

Our fourth luncheon of the 2018-19 season was held on Friday, January 25th at Eagle Eye. We were excited to welcome Co-Captain Josh Langford as our guest speaker. Josh captivated the crowd and showed again that Coach recruits "great people" that are very good athletes and why Coach has given him a leadership role. Coach Izzo then updated us on the current and upcoming schedule as we fight to continue our hot start in defending our Big Ten Championship. This week’s menu included pot roast, potatoes and green beans.

As always this was a wonderful opportunity to show support of our team and socialize with other Spartans. Go Green!

Luncheon @ Eagle Eye

Our fifth Rebounders Club Luncheon was held on Friday, February 8th at Eagle Eye Golf Club. The following day was the 1979 Players 40th Anniversary reunion and we welcomed starting guard Terry Donnelly from that Championship team as our guest speaker. Terry as always had the members and guests captivated. Coach updated everyone on the team and dealing with various injuries. This was the luncheon leading up to the 2019 Food Drive scheduled for Sunday, February 17, 2019 and our membership again stepped up in big way.

2019 MSU and Greater Lansing Food Banks Food Drive

Lupe Izzo again lead a team of volunteers at our annual Food Drive to benefit the MSU and Greater Lansing Food Banks on Sunday, February 17th as we took on the Ohio State Buckeyes. Every year this drive demonstrates the generosity of our fans and supporters of our community. We are happy to report the drive collected over $20,000 in monies and food items to record the 2nd best drive we have ever done. As always we want to thank everyone that volunteered their time and also those who donated money and food items. We look for your continuing support of others less fortunate.

Luncheon @ Eagle Eye

Our Senior Recognition Luncheon honored our two Senior Players (Matt McQuaid and Kenny Goins) and our Senior Managers on Friday February 22nd. It was a special meeting as our members and guests heard from the leaders of one of the most exciting teams ever to put on a Spartan uniform. As always this luncheon is very emotional as players and managers careers as Spartans wind down.
